Unfortunately the house was not open for touring but we could wander all around it - all 40 acres of it. The Booth family built their Albert Kahn designed home back in 1908 and spent the next 40 years enhancing the grounds with sculptures, fountains and a variety of gardens. They used their personal wealth and energy to establish what is now the Cranbrook Educational Community with private elementary and high schools along with both an art and science museum.
After wandering the gardens for a couple of hours, we decided to continue our time together over lunch at one of our favorite restaurants, bd Mongolian Grill. After selecting our meats, veggies and sauces and taking them to the grill to be stir fried we settled in for a nice long chat losing track of time and then having to race to our cars hoping not to find parking tickets because the meters had run their course.
We topped the day off with a Norup Middle School Band Concert held at Berkley High School sharing our seats with our daughter Beth and her husband Dean and grandson Scott. Our grandson Jason played his saxaphone with the 7th grade band.
As we departed for home we were treated to a gorgeous rainbow in front of us. A perfect ending to our day.
