We woke to a cool morning - only 62 degrees!!!! WOW! And the prediction was a high of 69 with low humidity. What a fitting way to start out September. But how wonderful it felt after all the heat and high humidity we've been experiencing. Besides we had blue skies and lots of sunshine which gave promise for a spectacular day. And that it was.
After breakfast, we drove to Steve and Libby's
home on Portage Lake and spent a wonderful day chatting with them, sharing pictures, enjoying the view
and eating a tasty meal prepared by them on the grill.
We really look forward to visiting with them each year, enjoying their lovely home with this huge stretch of sliding glass doors that make the view of Portage Lake a huge "mural in the living/dining area.
Steve had hip surgery a month ago and today was celebrating getting around the house with NO cane though it is always there should he need it. He has found the recovery from this replacement far easier than the first one. Medical support and methods keep changing for the better for sure.
It was hard to say good bye knowing they'll be off to Arizona soon and us to Florida --- so far apart. But we did make arrangements to have lunch together tomorrow evening prior to our bridge club meeting at the Crawfords. This time they can make it however, sadly, we learned yesterday that Roger and June VanDyke will not be able to come. He was placed in hospice yesterday at Beaumont Hospital after being taken there last week with heart failure. Both of us will be going to the Royal Oak area early on Friday to see Roger and June before dinner and bridge.
