We spent the day at the Renaissance Festival today traveling there with Beth, Jason, Scott and a friend of his Chris.
They picked us up at the campground where we had purchased the tickets so we wouldn't have to fight the lines at ticket booths there. Not sure it was much help as the number coming in was so huge we could barely even move forward to get to the gates to get in and we arrived before it actually opened. What a jam of people!!!!! Probably because it was an absolutely perfect day for being there. It was in the 60s this morning with blue skies and a promise of a high of only 76 with most of the humidity gone. Couldn't have ordered a more perfect day!!!
Just inside the gate many of the participating in a "courtly" dance.
We stopped to watch and listen to the Renaissance "band" provide the music.
While standing there a yellow jacket flew inside my blouse and nailed me on the shoulder!! What a start! I had to go to First Aid to have them see if they could get the stinger and then check me out as I was feeling mighty weird in the head and weak.
Meanwhile the rest of them went to the show going on next door -- 2 pipers and 2 drummers playing some fantastic music with wild pounding beat.
Once I was released, that is where we headed to join them and enjoy it all. Since I was so shaky, we sent them off to enjoy other stuff while I stayed for a bit just sitting and getting my equalibrium back. (that combined with my bad back that I threw out a couple of days ago made for a bit of difficulty getting around for the rest of the day, but we did)
They've added lots more buildings and shops since the last time we were there so it took a long time to work our way around the grounds stopping often to watch various activities going on or just taking in the sights.
We enjoyed several shows including The Ded Bob Sho which is always a must when we attend the Festival here in this area. It is unique and just plain fun!!!!
This was a fun show filled with all kinds of bad jokes as well as some juggling and other stuff
And of course we had to check out the jousting, another must.
Ken enjoyed a turkey leg as did all the boys. That, too, has always been something he's enjoyed when we go to this event.
The parade through the grounds that included king and queen, ladies in waiting, and a myriad of others was a site to behold because of all the wild outfits and interaction going on between the participants and those watching.
By 3:00, I had to call it a day. My back was killing me and we still had a long way to go to get back to the car. But it sure was fun just people watching, seeing the huge number of different outfits people wore and enjoying some of the shows.
Beth dropped us back at our RV where we laid down for a long nap!!!!
