As soon as Ken finished his Men's Bible study (runs from 7-8:15), we jumped in our car and headed for Naples arriving at the condo David Luttenbacher and his wife Sue rented for January - April. It has three bedrooms so has provided a spot not only for them but for David's sister, Diane, and for his folks Cecil and Mary Elizabeth Luttenbacher away from the Michigan winter and the confinement especially felt by Cecil and Mary Elizabeth who are now 96 and 98 and will celebrate their 71st wedding anniversary next month.
We had a delightful visit with all of them and shared a picnic out on the patio by the local pool. We brought freshly picked (this morning) strawberries from the stand just a mile or so from us with the patch right behind it. They provided a great salad and bbq chicken legs and thighs.
We spent the night at the Quality Inn nearby and then after breakfast there went to the condo that June VanDyke's kids had rented with the intention of all enjoying a week and a half together getting away from the north and its weather. She had just come in last night so they were still getting settled but we were able to enjoy three delightful hours with June.
Then we drove back over the Luttenbachers and spent a short time more with them before getting back on the road and heading for the Heritage Bible Church in San Antonio for a concert the Huron family was putting on to help raise funds for a vacation Bible School this summer for many of the little children in the area who have little to nothing of their own. They have been ministering to many of them delivering food and providing some of the children with clothes.
Below is a picture of most of the family - Anita was at the piano playing for them while they sang this last number and two are now married and live far away.
For an hour and a quarter we were treated to fantastic music provided by the children in groups of two to six.
The little church was packed with some standing at the back wall - I'm guessing at least 70 attended though it would have been more if there hadn't been a spaghetti dinner being offered at Hillcrest for which people had purchased tickets before knowing about the concert. They had set a goal of $1500 to be earned between now and this summer. Well over $2,000 was collected before the evening was over!!!!!
A wonderful reception of goodies was provided after the concert all provided by members of the church. It was wonderful having visiting time with so many we haven't seen since our church at Hillcrest started in November and we've had to attend there instead since we are in the choir and Ken leads the service a couple of times a month. But we'll be back in April when everyone returns to the north.
Sunday after church, we were able to unpack, do some wash and then I went down to the ice cream social to sell tickets for the Mission's raffle. Next Sunday we will be doing the drawing to select the winners for the various items including a quilt, paper tole framed picture, shawl, and 4 sets of pillow cases all made by members of the Hillcrest community.
