We were up early this morning to do our last minute packing, eat breakfast, clean up so we could pull in the slides, empty tanks, and yet be on the road toward Michigan by 10:00 am.
After saying farewell to Dan, Jen, Rachel and Noelle (Abbi is working at camp), we headed west. Despite the fact it is a holiday, there was very little traffic on the roads so we made it to our daughter, Beth's home by about 3:30 pm and that was with a gas stop and lunch stop at Panera's, our favorite stop on the Ohio Turnpike. We've never made that trip in less than 7 hours before.
Dean was busy preparing food for a party they were having later that would include enjoying the fireworks show that could be seen over the golf course which is just a block away. So we were able to enjoy some chit chat time with them and the boys before heading to the airport. We left our car in the church parking lot and loaded our stuff into Beth's car and went extra early so she could be back in time for the 6:30 party.
Since our plane was not leaving till 10:45 pm, we had lots of time to go through security (no line), get in a good walk along the concourse, enjoy a leisurely dinner at a Mexican restaurant, take advantage of the free WiFi to send last minute notes and catch up on email and Facebook, plug in our phones and tablet to boost the batteries, as well as read.
The huge plane was less than half full so neither of us had people next to us. We each had an aisle seat and I was lucky enough to be in the middle section so later I could lift the seat arms and lie down. Not long after we were up, they came through with drinks and dinner which included salad, chicken breast, vegetables, roll and dessert. Most of it was off limits to my diet so I didn't have much. We were given eye masks and ear phones so we could watch a movie on our individual screen or listen to music. The lights were lowered so we could sleep if we wished (or could). That is what I tried to do while Ken watched Divergent before attempting that. Around 3:30 am lights came on and a box breakfast was quickly passed out along with juice and coffee before we had to put seat backs up and prepare for landing. That was actually 9:00 am local time (5:00 am Michigan time) and we landed around 10:30 am. But that is Day 2's story.....
