Day 6 - The Faroe Islands

WOW! Look at this view we had when we got up this morning.

We pulled into the port of Klaksvik, a town of about 5,000 around 8:00 this morning.  The Faroe Islands consists of 18 islands with inhabitants on 17 or them and a total population of only 49,000.  Fishing accounts for as much as 97 percent of the country's exports.  AND, there are more sheep (75,000) than people!!

Our tour today took us for a trip through the town to the very long tunnel that goes under the Atlantic Ocean to the next island, Eysturoy, where we visited the Blasastova Museum - a small village of grass roofed homes, church and boat construction building with lots of little fishing boats.  Here we could get an opportunity to see how the people lived in the 1800s and early 1900s.

The insides of the homes were much bigger than we expected to see and truly took advantage of every nook for putting in places to sleep.  The beds were tucked into "cubbies" in the walls with curtains that could be drawn to keep in the body heat much like those ships officers slept in on their ships.
The weather was a bit warmer today such that with a couple of layers of cloths on we could sit on the outside deck in the sun and enjoy our lunch and the gorgeous view.
