At worship this morning, Pastor Huron, invited members to come up front and share what their mother's had meant to them. In several cases their were several generations attending and they all went up together. How neat it was to see families together sharing their love for one another. There were a dozen long stem roses in a vase at the front today and each mother received one to take home. They were presented after they spoke or given out immediately following the service. I cut mine back a bit to help it drink water again and put it into a vase to enjoy here in the motorhome.
At the very end of the service the whole congregation joined with Pastor Huron in praying for our safe travels tomorrow and throughout the summer. How blessed we felt. We've sure enjoyed worshipping with the Huron family and the others who come regularly.
While on our way home Bette Foulke texted asking if we'd like to go out for dinner together - a final chance to spend some time together. She had called Ruby Tuesday and they had a large group near the end of their meals so suggested we come right away. Frank and Bette picked us up from the motorhome giving us time to change before leaving, and we did enjoy a couple of hours together. It is so hard to say good bye to such good friends but luckily we know we'll see them in a month as we're meeting in Pennsylvania after they spend time with their three children and participate in the graduation and party of their youngest granddaughter, Elizabeth. Bette has worked hard on a beautiful queen size very colorful quilt with lots of butterflies on it and quilting in shapes of butterflies -- their gift to Elizabeth.
After they dropped us off, we did several loads of wash at the house - towels and clothing while getting up the foil covered boards on the windows to cut the sun heat from beating in, covering the furniture with sheets to reduce the dust that would land on the upholstered furniture and bed, finishing cleaning out the refrigerator, and cleaning it before turning it off, and doing some last minute checks to be sure everything we wanted to take with us was in the car.
While doing so, both Janet and Beth called to wish me a happy mother's day and chat for a bit. It was so good to be able to relax and just enjoy chatting with them. But the best part is knowing we'll all be together next Saturday in Ohio.
We put down the awnings to cover the windows and front sliding door once we were done inside and said farewell to our little house here at Hillcrest.
In the evening, we finished getting things in place inside the motorhome so we could leave in the morning. Ken's cousin, John, stopped by to wish us good travels. We had gone out with John and Donna for dinner on Saturday night at the Golden Corral and enjoyed some great social time with them before saying good bye. They are hanging around till the end of the month as she has several spots requiring MOIS surgery next Wednesday. Then they will head to New York and hope to sell their place there so they can live full time at Hillcrest.
PS I'm writing this on Monday night so can mention that we had a chance to see both Christy and Dale up at the office and visit with them for a bit before saying good bye and then while Ken was pulling up the jacks and getting the last minute stuff done, I walked over to Emma Jean and Dale Cook's home to say good bye to them and also to Santiago and his two sons, Peter and John Michael who were helping him do the finishing touches on the cement they had poured at 6:00 in the morning. We left them with a couple of bottles of chocolate syrup left over from our Cedar Key adventure last month. They hoped to use it for an ice cream social at the church.
Once we pulled out of our space and hitched up the car, we said a fond farewell to our site at 92A that has been home for 7 years.
It looked so lonely especially now that the shed is also gone along with the RV and carpet we used to cut down on the amount of grass we walked on and then could track inside.
My beautiful rose road with me sitting in the cup holder right next to my seat as we drove to Brunswick, Georgia and our first night out on our trip to Pennsylvania.
