Father's Day was extra special this year as we were able to celebrate with our son-in-law, Tim, and his dad, Chuck. The day included a visit to the elementary school where Jackson is working hard on building a picnic shelter that will be used as an outdoor classroom. He is learning all about the many steps necessary including inspections every time you complete a step which makes the process sometimes long and tedious. But it is still exciting to see it beginning to fall in place.
From there we drove over to his church where there is a shelter similar to the one he is creating although his will included a wood chip "floor." It will be large enough to hold up to 4 picnic tables which of course also have to be built.
After that we had the fun of walking around the campus of UNCC, visiting the student union, checking out the various buildings and gathering areas, and even walking though one of the beautiful botanical gardens. It really is a very pretty campus.
Following that we gathered at Boardwalk Billy's, a favorite restaurant of the family's, for a great meal out on the deck overlooking a little lake where we could watch the geese with their little ones paddling around and several couples out enjoying a paddle boat ride.
After returning to the house, we enjoyed simply relaxing together. Carolyn had a great time Skip Bo and Monopoly with Reilly and Jason while the others chatted in the living room. Our time together included sharing Father's Day gifts and cards as well as celebrating Ken's upcoming birthday with a cupcake and gifts.
Tomorrow we'll be off on our week adventure with Jason and Reilly -- a trip to Chattanooga.
