Off to Chattanooga

Monday dawned bright and beautiful ... a perfect day for setting off on our week journey with our two 13 year old grandsons, Jason (from Michigan) and Reilly (from North Carolina).  Because of a problem with our electricity that developed over the weekend we headed out a bit behind schedule since Ken wanted to discuss the problem with the RV repair place right next door to the campground - Tom Johnsons.  While he was doing that I took Jason with me for a quick stop at the grocery store for some necessary food items and then on to Reilly's home to pick him up and all his baggage.  We then returned, hitched up the car and were off shortly thereafter.

There is no direct way to get from Concord, NC to Chattanooga, TN.  Instead we had to head south on I 85 into Georgia and then work our way over to I 75 and head back north.  That meant a good part of the day was spent just traveling.  But we did stop for a bite to eat at a Flying J in Georgia at lunch time.  The rest of the time the boys enjoyed playing games -- Skip Bo, Farkle, Connect 4, and Mad Libs as well as watching a couple of DVDs.  That helped make the time slide by much quicker for them.

We arrived at our campground, Best Holiday Trav-L-Park, around 4:00 in the afternoon where the hot sun beat down on us and quickly heated up the inside of the RV as it was in the mid 90's.  We quickly set up and the boys and I got into our bathing suits so we could cool off and have some fun at the pool.

While we had a great time Ken ended up having to deal with our major electricity problem which was now much worse.  Every time we turned on the electricity there was much pounding then everything shut down. There seemed to be no combination of things he could do to resolve the problem.  So when we returned, we quickly changed clothes and went out to eat at a local buffet to give him also a chance to cool off and then drove to two different repair places in the area to see what there facilities looked like and assess the possibility of them being able to take care of us in the morning.

When we returned, the inside of the motorhome was registering at 95 degrees inside even with every window open.  I played a game of Farkle with the boys while Ken just tried to relax and read.  The hope was that as the evening wore on it would cool off.
Alas, it did not so when we finally gave up at 11:00 and crawled into bed (all of us lying on top of covers) it had only dropped to 92 degrees.  But the boys were willing to continue to see it as an adventure and quickly were sound asleep.

  1. Well, you guys certainly are having an adventure! Sorry it started out so frustrating with the motorhome. Hope all gets fixed soon and you get back in your home. Looks like the boys are enjoying themselves :) Thanks for the update.
