First we headed to Rock City which is actually just inside Georgia. In fact we saw the welcome to Georgia sign as we wound our way up Lookout Mountain to the Rock City starting point. This was actually at one time on the estate of a man who wanted to make his land more beautiful by putting in interesting plantings. Other things were added and eventually it was purchased and turned in to a great visitor's experience. Many times over the years while driving down I 75 to Florida we'd pass the signs and think that looked like a tourist trap - well it sure isn't!!!! We had a ball.
The place takes advantage of all the huge boulders, cliffs, and tight spots to provide a beautiful, challenging and fun walk up to a lookout where you can see seven states on a good clear day. Unfortunately it was quite hazy due to the high heat and humidity but it was still worth the climb.
More then could be seen on the way down as we followed a different path. There were such spots as balance rock
The Fat Man's Squeeze
and the exercise room where Reilly tried to do his speed and agility workout that he'd missed at home and Jason just had fun. They also enjoyed watching a bit of TV. Other than a quick run out to the local Wendy's for a small bit to eat that was our day.
Waterfall and ledges
Caves of varying sizes
The Eye of a Needle
A 180 foot long swinging bridge over a deep canyon (too blurry to print because I was swinging :-)
Rainbow tunnel (sideways again :-)
and even a series of fairy tale dioramas inside a tunnel and cave
Near the end of our journey at Rock City we got a call from Lee Smith. They finally figured out the problem with our RV - the internal surge surpressor has "fried". Lucky for us we didn't have a resulting fire!!!!!!! Anyway, they have to keep the RV as they are sending for a part and will install it tomorrow. Sooooooo we set off to find a better hotel, a Fairfield Inn with a pool, hot tub and exercise room we could also enjoy.
Once we'd made another trip to our disabled RV to get more clothes and stuff and moved that in we made another trip to Cracker Barrel (per the boys request) for yet another meal out. The boys loved playing with the puzzle they keep on the tables to entertain them while waiting for food. In fact, Reilly finally became a "genius" actually eliminating all the pegs except one.
Meanwhile, Jason enjoyed several glasses of strawberry lemonade in a frosted mug!!
We were all "done in" by all the heat and humidity (95 and 93%) and decided to just enjoy our motel facilities. The boys enjoyed the pools (afternoon & evening)
and the exercise room where Reilly tried to do his speed and agility workout that he'd missed at home and Jason just had fun. They also enjoyed watching a bit of TV. Other than a quick run out to the local Wendy's for a small bit to eat that was our day.
Sounds like a great day. Love the pictures.
