We left our son's home in Pennsylvania shortly before 8:00 this morning in dense fog but by the time we'd hooked up the car at the local shopping center it was beginning to lift. Other than an early stop to top off our tanks (diesel and DEF), we had smooth sailing till lunch time. A misty rain began falling then and shortly after we started up the passenger side windshield wiper came loose and Ken had to stop on a shoulder to rescue it. Unfortunately it only held for a short time and we had to pull off the road at a service station to do a better fix (isn't duct tape the best?) before continuing. The vistas all through Pennsylvania and West Virginia were gorgeous despite the rain especially once we got up into the mountains. It is hard to get pictures while moving at 60 miles an hour down the road especially with a damp windshield but I couldn't resist. Here are a few
The next day the sun came out and gave us blue skies for the final hours through Virginia and North Carolina but the color wasn't nearly as pretty once we were out of the higher mountains.
