We awoke to birds chirping, leaves rustling and sunshine peeking through the trees. Downstream Campground was such a beautiful place. But alas we had to be up and on the move by 8:00 am saying goodbye to this place near the Fort Peck Dam and head out for Great Falls, Montana where we are spending the weekend. Just after we left the campground we passed over the dam and I was able to get this shot of Fort Peck Lake created by the damming of the Missouri River.
We drove across the top of Montana on Highway 2 to Havre and then southwest on US 87. Short of a few tiny towns and a slightly larger Havre, we were primarily traveling two lane road through the countryside with lots of ranch land and mountains on the horizon. Everything was very green because of all the rain they have been experiencing this spring.
The first half of the day we primarily saw lots of flat ranch land that stretched out to the horizon. Homes were few and far between. Cattle could be seen here and there. Towns sometimes only consisted of three or four run down buildings. But with the bright blue skies and all the shades of green it had its own special beauty.
After we passed through Harve and turned onto 87, we began to see buttes here and there and more mountain in the distance. Then hills began to arise with deep ravines here and there.
And in one area we actually had high hills on both sides of us sprinkled with deep purple wild flowers.

Unfortunately there were so many little bugs that our windshield was quickly covered making it tough to take pictures as we traveled down the road. But there was one pull off where one of our friends, Bob and Glenda Christian, were able to stop, get out and take a couple of pictures
This was the sign explaining what they were looking at.
We made only one stop - in a KMart lot in Harve to have a bite of lunch and do a little grocery shopping.
After we got in everyone got busy scrubbing down their windshields and RV fronts that were full of dead bugs. Then dogs were walked, chairs came out for a relaxing rest outside, and members of the caravan compared notes on their travels.
After dinner I played the game of golf with Bette Foulke and Bob Christian at one of the picnic tables. Glenda joined us for a bit.
