This morning we left Florence, OR and all its beautiful sand dunes and headed for California. The first sixty miles we were on winding roads filled with trees,
views of rivers,
through tunnels
over bridges
and even passed a field with many elk grazing.
We finally reached I 5, the major expressway that heads south. There were lots of "hills" that I call mountains since we come from flatland
some of them had us climbing a thousand or more feet
We crossed over into California at 4,310 feet on the Siskiyou Pass. Shortly thereafter Mt Shasta came into view.
It stands at 14,162 feet so it does stand out! As we got closer to our campground in Weed it grew much bigger in appearance
After we parked our RVs I went out and took a picture. It is hard to see because of the tall trees around us but it feels like it is right behind us.
And off to our right is this volcano, Black Butte
As evening arrived there were many pretty colors in the sky around the mountains
It was in the mid 50s when we left Oregon this morning and when we reached our campground in the mid afternoon it was in the high 90's. The weather man promises temperatures close to 100 tomorrow. We'll have to drive way up on the mountain to escape that!!!!
