We Are Off on a Caravan of Two

Monday, June 22
This morning the caravan group gathered for coffee and coffee cake and some last minute chat time before heading off in many different directions-some south, some north, and some east.
Frank & Bette, Ken and I headed south on our own planned caravan of two.  Our goal for the day was 180 miles south along the Oregon coast to Florence following the Pacific Coast Highway 101.

There was lots of beauty, challenging driving and ultimately a fantastic campground at the end. Our first stop was at a pull off where we could look back at haystack rock that we had visited yesterday. The fog gave it an entirely different look plus the tide waters were up a bit more.
Winding tree lined roads filled a good part of the drive (bug spattered windows detracts a bit from the beauty of it all sadly)

Over bridges with views of the water and distant mountains
Through tunnels
Past beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean

We stopped in Tillamook for the self guided tour of the cheese factory
checking out informative signs
Then we enjoyed lunch in their cafe, bought some cheese and topped the stop off with yummy Tillamook ice cream (48 flavors to choose from)

Back on the road we passed a lot of farm land and cows out grazing. They probably contribute their milk to the wonderful cheese and ice cream at Tillamook.
We ran into a bit of a problem in the Lincoln City area.  There had been a rollover accident and the road was closed.  Everyone was being detoured onto a small residential very windy narrow road definitely not made for RVs.  That was a hold your breath experience!!!!!!

Once we got through that the winding narrow Pacific Coast Scenic Highway didn't seem nearly as bad though it too had its moments especially when rises and descents got thrown into the mix.  Still it was a gorgeous drive.

We finally arrived at our campground in Florence.  This is our home for a couple of nights

With this view at the front of the park of Woahink Lake
And at the back of the campground is this hill with an ATV going up it
We walked up behind him and this is what we saw
We climbed a bit higher and saw this
(the Pacific Ocean is that tiny blue line on the horizon)

Now I can't wait till tomorrow when we'll go for an hour long dune ride!!
