We woke this morning to temperatures in the low 60s that were suppose to climb to 82 which they did. But the best part, was blue skies, lots of sun AND LOW humidity - only 32% Finally we are having what I think of as a typical Michigan summer day NOT a Florida one which is what we've been having day after day after day. Walking was so much easier and much more fun today!! It certainly was no problem making 10,000 steps!
We also enjoyed a lunch out with our friends Bill and Elaine Patton today. Their grandson, Jon got married a couple of weeks ago to one of the teachers at his school in Japan. Brie is from Texas and chose to be married at an historical theater in Grapevine just a couple of miles from our youngest daughter, Janet. She had some pictures to share from the wedding so we went back to their place after lunch so we could see them on her computer and then just enjoy more time chatting.
Back at our place, I decided to try the blueberry zucchini bread recipe again and make it in little mini loaf pans thinking this might be a perfect thing to make for the bake sale at the two sales we will have during the missions yard sale at Hillcrest this winter season. After what I learned making the loaves last Wednesday, I made more adjustments in the cooking time checking them a couple of times and think I finally have a good combination of lower temp and fewer minutes than the original recipe. It is always a challenge to bake items in our microwave/convection oven. Since I was given so many zucchini's and summer squashes by our neighbor here I'm going to take advantage of them to do some more practice. There certainly are plenty of people to share little loaves with while we are here.
Speaking of which, after a couple of phone calls I think I've nailed a day for my old Pleasant Ridge ladies bridge group to get together for lunch. Sha has volunteered her home and all of us are going to bring salads. I think some of these mini loaves will be perfect additions to that meal.
Life is good!!!
PS. Yesterday Karen Kline was honored during the worship service as she is "retiring" from her volunteer work there after leading the youth for 30 years!!! She will continue to help with new members but is excited to have more free time as her oldest Audrey is expecting next month and her son's wife is expecting their first in January. She'll be doing what we did, lots of travel as they both live in other states.
After church, we took Beth and Jason out to the Airway Lanes in Waterford for the Youth Blues competition. Scott's band, Leah and the Troublemakers, won that competition last year and made the trip to the Internationals in Memphis, Tennessee. So they were opening the competition with several numbers. It was great to hear them play even if it isn't our favorite music. They did a fabulous job!!
