Our Last Day at Sea

Friday, April 8, 2016
As we were walking into the Windjammer Cafe this morning, we ran into Bill and Jan carrying their plates to a table.  Quickly we grabbed drinks to put down by two of the chairs remaining and then got our breakfast and joined them.  It was so nice having lots of free time so we could just sit and enjoy each others company.  We haven't seen each other since January and who knows when we'll see them again since they are always on the move - more than us in fact.  While we were there, Ken ran over to buy a shirt he'd seen and liked.  As soon as Bill and Jan saw it they decided they needed it too so he ran over and got his. By the time we got up from the table they were putting out this sheet cake that would be sliced and given out at 12:45.
And across from it they put up this "underwater" scene made from fruits and vegetables
We walked down the stairs together heading for the dining room on the fourth level where we were to meet the entire tour group for lunch.  First we stopped in our respective rooms to change into the shirts we'd gotten - chosen because they show the view we have from our room of the wake behind the ship.

On the way we happened to see several of them chatting on one of the jut out balconies in the Centrum. Dave Rumrill was obviously regaling them with a story.
We walked around and joined them continuing then down to the dining room.  They had set us up on the opposite side from everyone else so it was a relatively quiet spot to sit and enjoy a meal together with absolutely wonderful service including a glass of champagne for each of us compliments of the dining staff. We sat with the Engstroms, Rumrills and Maas's.

This one came out rather dark because of the back lighting
Lunch included this fabulous salad bar where items were put in for you then mixed and chopped yet again before placing the results in a beautiful bowl
The other couples who also were lucky enough to get the same view in rooms on the seventh deck ran up to buy the same shirts between lunch and dessert after seeing ours.

After lunch we all gathered at the beautiful stairway that led to the dining room above us for a picture of the entire group. (note all those blue shirts on the right)
Here are those with the view of the wake
The Engstroms stopped by after lunch to see this wonderful view we had and were treated to this cute recreation of the towel snake done by our room steward when he made up the room this morning.

And I couldn't resist this shot of Ken who was working his way through his third book of the week.
We just enjoyed our room and relaxing with our books during the afternoon though I did take a few minutes to run down to see a bit of the art auction and pass through the shops quickly

Before we knew it, it was time to once again return to the dining room for dinner though we were still stuffed from lunch :-)  Prime rib and lobster were the fare for the night so no one wanted to miss that!!  This was a shot I took while passing through the dining room toward our table
Following dinner we went back to our room and packed our suitcase since it needed to be placed in the hall and taken down to the hold to be ready for removal as soon as we dock in the morning.

Then we were off for the last big production show of the night.  And what a delight it was as it included not only the singer and dancers but the string quartet that has been entertaining in various spots around the ship, the piano player alone and  a guitarist who has also been entertaining at various venues.  It was well coordinated and really showed off all the talent we'd been treated to on this cruise.  At the very end, representatives of the room stewards, chefs, waiters, and ship staff paraded across the stage to our applause.

And so it was coming to an end.  Other than enjoying a bit more music in the Centrum, we chose to return to our room and get some sleep.
