In the late afternoon we arrived at the Holiday Trav -L Park in Virginia Beach. We could settle in anticipation of six days here. The weather prediction was wrong thank goodness, instead of the rain predicted we had bits of sunshine and high 80s. That meant we could move around outside although we chose to do it after a game, nap and supper.
At our lunch stop at a rest stop near Richmond there was this huge LOVE sign. Naturally we had to go and check it out.
After enjoying a light supper, we drove down to the beach which is only a couple of miles from here. The campground has a parking lot especially for campers here which is just two blocks from the beach so we parked there and headed over. As soon a Noelle saw the water she was off across the huge beach eager to get her feet in the water.
She had lots of fun searching for shells
and letting the waves bounce up her legs. According to her the water was pleasant. I didn't see anyone gasping so I'm guessing that means it was fairly warm. Much as I love the water, sea water and all of it's sticky feeling did not sound the least bit exciting to me so we just had fun just watching her have fun.
There was a woman walking down the beach past us with a pig on a leash. Noelle was all over that taking time to pet the pig before returning to the water.
I had noticed that a "circus" was listed as entertainment at 17th street (we entered the beach a 10th street) so we slowly began to work our way up the beach while Noelle continued playing in the water and moving along with us. Before long we were seeing color in the sky as we looked back at the "boardwalk" (cement, not boards). The sun was going down. So we encouraged her to get out of the water and head up to see what kind of entertainment comprised the "circus".
The flyer I looked at listed 3 different start times so we figured it would be repeats. Apparently not though as when we arrived we saw the last of the first program and stayed for the second one that was different although basically had the same entertainers - 2 young gals who did a variety of things on a huge ring, rope, and long ribbons.
During the break, we sauntered over to the nearby Dairy Queen and each got a blizzard to enjoy while watching the second act that not only included the girls
but a young fellow doing a bit of clowning (one skit was cute when he took a young fellow from the audience and tied his arms to a board with lots of balloons on it then covering his head after showing him the knife he was going to throw to break the balloons. After each break he'd take off the head covering so the boy could see the knife in the board which in actuality was put there by one of the girls hiding behind the board) and another one doing a variety of things with a flaming stick including "swallowing" the fire and twirling the stick with fire on each end. By that time it was quite dark so extra entertaining.
By the time we headed back to the campground the clock was pushing 10:30 - time for us to get some sleep after a long day. But first we had to watch our favorites: Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune which we record so we can watch it minus all the ads.
