Because we had decided to treat this as a laid back, roll with the flow day, we chose to sleep in waking just before the phone rang --- a birthday call to Noelle from her Dad. What a beautiful way to start the day!!
Before we could do much, we had to put the motorhome back in order - push out the slides, get the couch back out, turn the chairs around and generally put things back together. But while we were doing that we were saying thanks to our good Lord who protected us. We did NOT get the awful storm that was barreling its way toward us when we went to bed last night. Instead we just had the predicted rain with little wind.
The prediction had been for rain all day into tomorrow morning but again we were lucky. The rain didn't restart until early afternoon and by suppertime it had come to a halt and with it the temperatures dropped a bit into the 70s bringing welcome relief.
Our day started off with a late breakfast - eggs, bacon and mini muffins with tea (Noelle had hot chocolate) along with time to just chat about what we'd been doing and simply enjoying being together. Note the matching Birthday Buddies shirts they are both wearing in honor of the day.
Noelle had asked for a day of playing games, reading and relaxing and that is just what we did. She and I played multiple games of Skip-Bo, Boggle, Qwerkle and Sequence. She kept beating me at what ever we attacked but I finally won a game of Skip-Bo by the skin of my teeth. She would have gone out on the next play.
While we enjoyed the games, Ken read, fielded some happy birthday calls from friends, and even took a nap, and I got three loads of wash done.
But by 2:30, we were feeling a bit hungry and decided to splurge with a birthday "linner" at the local Golden Corral. Ken had received a free meal coupon for his birthday so we could use that to help pay for the outing. Noelle had never been to a Golden Corral before so had a real ball trying all the different offerings till her tummy got super full that is.
It was still pouring rain when we finished, so we decided to simply return to the motorhome and play yet another game with Ken joining us as well. So Noelle pulled out her newest one, Ticket to Ride, and we had fun building our trains for trips across the USA.
By the time we finished, it was after 7:00 and we could hear a band playing somewhere here in the park. It definitely was LOUD!!! But it did mean the rain had finally come to a halt. A walk sounded good but first we chose to celebrate the two birthdays with cake and open birthday cards. It is a must or the day wouldn't be officially a birthday one.
While walking around the campground we stopped to watch the band a bit,
explored the little store, check out the pool, cafe and game rooms, and took a picture by King Neptune. This place has all kinds of statues around it.
Just as we were doing that, the phone rang again and it was Noelle's other grandparents, Rick and Bev Ratcliffe so she scooted away from us and had a nice chat with them as we continued circling the park. Right after she hung up the phone rang again and it was Rachel, Noelle's middle sister calling to say Happy Birthday. How she loved those calls!!
After watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune which we had recorded, we called it a night. Tomorrow we'll be up very early for our trip to Chincoteague Island which is about 2 1/2 hours away.
