After church this morning we set off for Salt Lake City traveling across I 80 through more of the high desert country. One of the passes over a mountain had us at almost 7000 feet but most of the time I think we were rolling over primarily elevations of 4000-5000 feet. We saw many shades of green
The mountains have their individual looks as well with the rock taking interesting shapes
Then shortly before crossing over into Utah we came over a rise and saw all this white ahead - the salt flats
We stopped at the rest stop near the famous measured mile where speed records have been set
The rest stop had a rather unique spot for cars to park - guess it helps keep the sun from making it even hotter while they are parked
We then continued on passing miles of salt flats and truly discovering what a mirage of water looks like as it constantly looked like water was coming but then it would just be more salt
Then some water did appear - in fact at times it was even in the median area
More mountain
And then the Great Salt Lake with Antelope Island rising high near the shore. It was across the road from us so it was hard to get a picture of the massiveness of the island and the lake itself.
We pulled into the Pony Express RV Resort in the late afternoon only to discover our passenger side bedroom slide wouldn't open. That means a much tinier bedroom and no ability to get to the washer and dryer! So we had to place a call with a mobile RV service with the hope they might be able to come out tomorrow and fix the problem.
Then Bette and I took our wash to the machines here at the park and enjoyed a game of cribbage while waiting for the wash to be done.
Dinner and a bit of relaxation followed before calling it a night.
