Our travels today took us just 78 miles to the Park of the Sierras, an Escapee's park (we are members of this group that owns several of its own parks - this one totally built by volunteers and almost totally run by volunteers) near Coarsegold.
We are now near Yosemite National Park and will spend the next few days here enjoying all the area has to offer.
Our drive took us through towns and cities including Fresno but finally we hit some countryside with signs indicating we were on a wine trail though all we saw were signs that took you down sideroads to the various wineries and vineyards. We saw this kind of countryside
It was overcast and cool with rain predicted at Yosemite so we decided to take a day of leisure. A chance to catch up with emails, finish off blogs, read a book, do some cooking and cleaning and also meet some of the residents of this park. There are 254 homes here and a few spaces for people like us who wander in and out. They take great pride in what they have built and continue to maintain as well they should. It is beautiful!
Frank and Bette are across the street from us in this very rolling campground with very level sites and nicely treed.
A shot looking to our left revealed this view
And on a short walk we looked both down and up at other campsites
We found this little bunny just watching us from one of the sites near by
Several different people have made it a point to stop by to see us and welcome us to the park. They have brought us a whole stack of literature about the area including Yosemite and also invited us to their once a week "happy hour" this afternoon.
The four of us went down for that with our plates and a drink as was suggested and were quickly welcomed and included in the group that had gathered around several tables pushed together. They had us introduce ourselves and then asked that we be the first to go up and fill our plates. What a friendly and welcoming group of people!!!
After that gathering we had no need for dinner so Bette and I decided to take my Qwerkle game to the clubhouse and play a game (they have nice big tables which work better for the game). We managed to play two full games and attract interest from several of the people in the clubhouse who were first playing Bunko and then Farkle. We ended up closing up the place after taking a few minutes to tour it after we finished our games. It has a balcony with several defined areas - a spot for some exercise equipment, a TV and sofa and chair arrangement, poker tables, counter space for crafts, and a door wall out to a huge deck. We found a full library on the first floor. This is a very impressive park.
Tomorrow we are off to Yosemite National Park
