The Journey to Colorado Continues

Thursday, July 23, 2015
We were off before 9:00 am this morning eager to get to our next stop - Golden, Colorado where we'll stay for four days!!

Today's trip through Wyoming was different - we saw far more flat land even through we were between 7000 and 8500 feet in elevation.  This area is really a very high plateau with lots of land for cattle and horse grazing.

with an occasional group of buildings (probably a ranch) and sometimes a water "hole"
Yes, even at that elevation there still were peaks that were higher but they were usually at quite a distance from the road.
Once in a while we'd go through a gap reminding us we were in the mountains but not on the very top
Once we turned onto I 25 at Cheyenne and headed south we found ourselves in much flatter land - much of it used for farming
The Rocky Mountains were to our right but still quite distant but we could see snow on the tops of some of them
We stopped at the Colorado Visitor Center for lunch and to pick up some brochures.  Out side the door was this horse representing "cowboy" country but also painted with various rodeo events.
From there on we were in busier and busier areas filled with homes and businesses
The traffic go real heavy once we were outside of Denver and at times we simply crawled along.  But eventually we got to the Dakota RV Park and set up.

We'd discovered via our brochures that there was a bd Mongolian Grill in Denver.  That being one of our very favorite restaurants (the original is near our hometown in Michigan) we decided to take the trek back into the downtown area of Denver

Frank and Bette went ahead of us to fill their bowls with cut up meat  and vegetables.  Then took it to the grill to have it stir fried.
After dinner, we drove the mile or so to the State Capital building and stopped to walk around it and take a couple of pictures before returning to the car.  This is the back side
and this is the front
I then made a half turn and shot this picture of the "mall" area that leads across the street to the Supreme Court
Just a couple of blocks away was the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception with its beautiful gold doors.
