Our coach was in a service bay shortly after 8:00 this morning and by 10:30 we were on our way to Colorado Springs. Unfortunately that was with no locks either bedroom slide BUT there was a promise a new one would be delivered in the next couple of days and we can return to have it installed. Meanwhile we can have more bedroom space again AND use our washer and dryer. Hooray!!
Our drive down was primarily through settled areas so we were more aware of homes and businesses than scenic countryside. However, when we pulled off of I 25 into the city we were driving right toward the mountains including Pike's Peak (note the snow patch). Now that was a beautiful sight!
Frank and Bette were watching for us at the entrance to the campground - we were glad to be back together again. Once we were settled and had some lunch in our tummies, the four of us drove over to the Garden of the Gods and spent several hours enjoying the displays and movie at the visitor center
and these views from the balcony.
But it is simply too far away to get more than just a glimpse of the beauty of the red rocks. A drive and walk took us far closer where we could really appreciate their size and shapes. Many of them have acquired names over the years such as these "kissing camels"
and Steamboat Rock
There was the very popular balance rock (hard to get a picture without lots of people crawling around by it and pretending to hold it up)
There were mobs of people driving and parking in the few pulloff spots so we weren't able to get as many pictures as we'd like but they sure were neat to see. This looked like natural steps leading to something important since they were so broad
And this was quite unusual with a white rock in front of a red one. It made quite a contrast
This was obviously a place that challenged mountain climbers
And this is what they were trying to climb
And from one of the pull offs you could see this collection each with a name and actually fairly far apart. But the long walk to get up close to them was more than we wanted to take. Our energy level isn't quite the same at over 6,000 feet
We stopped at an overview where we first entered the park after driving through a housing area where these rocks were part of the home lots and this is what we could see - lots of red rocks of all kinds of sizes
We had worked up an appetite and both of us had coupons for dinner at Ruby Tuesdays so we then headed for the restaurant. The first one we found was closed but after a call we found another that was in a mall and open.
