One of the fun things that happens in this park on weekends is that it is patroled by the local sheriffs on horseback. They spend a good deal of time just interacting with all the campers and picnickers. And the kids just love petting the horses. They came over by our site this morning while many of the campers were packing up to leave for home.
Beth, Dean and the boys came out to our campground after lunch. The 90 plus degrees and very high humidity kept us inside part of the time since the sun's angle was such that the awning gave little shade and moving around a lot left us uncomfortable. But we turned that into a fun opportunity to look at old family movies that we had put onto DVD's for each of our kids. What fun watching Beth and her sisters and brother in their formative years. We saw Beth learning to swim, doing gymnastics, enjoying Busch Gardens in Florida, celebrating birthdays and Christmas's. What fun looking back!!
By supper time the clouds had come in and a small breeze had arisen so we enjoyed our hamburgers, corn on the cob, chips, dip and tossed salad as we gathered around the picnic table outside. Scott brought out his acoustic guitar and played a bit. The cell phone provided an opportunity to attempt a bit of drumming. Jason took a turn at playing as well. It really reminded me of my early days when both of my brothers were beginning to strum.
The clouds got darker and weather checks on the phones indicated storms were nearby so we cleaned up and then rather than drive to Cooks Farm Dairy for our ice cream treat we chose to just drive to Grandma's which is just outside the park where we got our Cook's ice cream treat and could enjoy it inside in air conditioning.
We parted ways at that point just as a few drops started to spit down.
By the time we were back in our camping spot the drops were getting a bit more persistent. Soon we were into a good rainstorm. It lasted all night and continued on into Tuesday morning.
