Keystone Campout Ends

Sunday, August 16, 2015

The official Keystone Winnies campout came to an end this morning.  Sadly that meant that Bill and Ann Sherwood left and the spot next to us is now vacant and awaiting another camper.  But before they left, Ann gave me a four leaf clover she had found this morning - that is one of her signatures.  She apparently is quite good at finding them.  But the best part was she shared a story about a 92 year old friend to whom she'd given a four leaf clover who then shared the following poem with her (from memory!!!! - she'd learned it in the 7th grade)  Ann was so intrigued by it she searched the web and found a copy, printed it and framed it with a fresh four leaf clover and gave it to her as a gift.  A gift that really spoke to her because she'd just found out her son had cancer and she'd already lost two other children to cancer.  This poem and gift she said would be a reminder to her of her need to keep her faith, continue to hope as well as remember to love others and keep strong.

Four-Leaf Clover

BY ELLA HIGGINSON
I know a place where the sun is like gold,
And the cherry blooms burst with snow,
And down underneath is the loveliest nook,
   Where the four-leaf clovers grow.

One leaf is for hope, and one is for faith,
And one is for love, you know,
And God put another in for luck—
If you search, you will find where they grow.

But you must have hope, and you must have faith,
You must love and be strong – and so—
If you work, if you wait, you will find the place
      Where the four-leaf clovers grow.

We've had a delightful few days with this group of Winnebago owners getting to know both the Sherwoods and Plants.  Everyone else here we've been blessed to know for a period of time because they all come to Florida where we spend time with them as well.   After their official meeting a couple of days ago they had me take a picture for the cover of their upcoming year folder about all the planned activities for the 2015-2016 year.

They've got a cute name sign for the group as well though.  Unfortunately a couple of the people here don't have one yet with their name on it so it isn't a complete representation of all the people here who are in the group.

We've enjoyed meals together, walks, games, and campfires.  There have been shopping trips  exploratory drives just to check out the area.  Some go one way and others another way but always we've been back together for dinner and a campfire in the evening.

Two nights ago after our dinner together Bette and I played a game of Qwirkle at the picnic table while Ann and Bill watched so they could learn it.  Then yesterday I played a game with them.  We had so much fun.  Lorraine joined us to watch and is now ready to try a game herself.  Afterwards, Jan joined the four of us and I also showed them how to play Quiddler. It was threatening to rain so we didn't officially record the scores but just had fun creating words and helping each other.

Ken enjoyed a presentation yesterday at the ampitheater on drones and how they are used to help in mapping building construction, pipelines and so forth.  We could see the drone then flying way up high in the air as it mapped out the camp ground area --- observers at the presentation could watch what it was seeing on a screen.
This is the $35,000 drone he uses for mapping.

We've enjoyed cooking hamburgers and hot dogs over a campfire, sharing through potlucks, going out for a meal, and just relaxing together around evening campfires.
Bill and Ann had been in charge of activities and meals during the official campout and provided some wonderful breakfasts.  They had all the set up so we spent a good deal of time at their site but now have moved things to the Beer's site and will continue all this fun together for the next week.

In fact, tonight after our potluck supper,  while some sat and chatted and enjoyed the fire others of us gathered around the picnic table and played LCR with nickles.  I was lucky enough to win a couple of times.

It sure has been wonderful just relaxing and living at a much slower pace than we have the past few months.
